Yes I do generally consider myself a Democrat, especially over the past 3 or 4 years. If that's because I respect the beliefs and customs of others I don't see why that's such a terrible thing. I interact with students from various cultural and religious backgrounds on a daily basis (Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Atheist and I'm sure some others).
When I go to my Catholic Church on Christmas Eve however I will wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!

Reply to the Ben Stein commentary:

I don’t necessarily disagree with much of what Mr. Stein is saying. I have great relationships with Jewish, Muslim and Christian people and wish them the best on their Holiday (Holy-Day) celebrations. However if I am aware that someone is not or may not be Christian I find it a bit silly and ethnocentric of me to wish him or her Merry Christmas.

I really don’t care about Nick and Jessica, whoever they are, or most celebrities or athletes for that matter. What about the hero worship of athletes? I used to own a Viking jersey too….I think I was about 10.

Maybe it was “God’s” work in disasters like Katrina (and disasters like the FEMA response…“Doin’ a heck of job Brownie!”) Or maybe it’s the mistakes we as humans have made.
Maybe we’ve been our own worst enemy and caused damage to the environment. Maybe we’ve gotten away from the things that really matter and left our children behind.

I don’t think I learned morality and the lessons of right and wrong from God, the church, or some organized religion. I think I learned it from my parents and people that were around me as I grew up. People like my kindergarten teacher, little league coach and other adults in the community.

I find Ben Stein to be kind of boring and pompous, (he was amusing in the Ferris movie) but I do hope he had a nice Hanukkah and enjoyed seeing the manger scene near his “beach house” in Malibu. Ya, Ben understands me!

By the way….Did anyone ever see the Curb Your Enthusiasm episode when Larry David rented the live manger scene for his wife and got in fight with Joseph?

Go Johnnies!
