Don't know that they have. Mavericks come out of the weekend with a split over #3 Colorado College. Maybe they'll crack the top ten this week. Go Purple Land Cows!

Ooh Mikey I'd love to attend that back alley brawl up there but I cannot. But if I did it'd be the one where they serve beer.

Is there a best spot to go to before and/or after games or is any beer hall sufficient? I don't know the Cloud very well actually.

Good question,

I'm sure the "good" bars have changed since my days up there. When I'm up there with others we usually go across town to McCann's (it used to be called OHara's) since they have the best foosball tables. There is no shortage of beer up there in Sherburne Co.

Hopefully the Huskies can take down the Land Cows on Saturday when I'm up there.

Very good weekend for your Huskies. Mavs lose 3-2 at home to Denver last night too. Not a good December so far.

Number eight seed Purple Land Cows upset the #3 seed Huskies of St. Cloud 5-4 in OT last night. Never doubt the power of the potato staters.

Time to get the trash talk going again. The rodents head to Kato to take on the Purple Land Cows this weekend. Mavs are coming off a sweep at Hockey East powerhouse UMASS-Lowell this weekend. Gophers wishy washed their way to a split against the Spartans and Wolverines. The Sprint/Nextel/AT&T/Verizon/T-mobile center should be hoppin' come Friday night.

It means that the MSU-Minnesota hockey team's nickname is the Mavericks, or a cow. Like bull fighting, where the guy holds the red carpet and the bull comes running real fast and he pulls it away he might yell ... "olayyy" to the crowd's roar. Then when he starts stabbing the bull in the head as it runs by he might do like a pirate with a sword trying to initiate a sword fight, he'd pull the sword from its case, hold it before him and say "ollayyy", as in "would you like to have a sword fight." Only the bull, or the cow in this case, might just run at the red carpet and continue to get stabbed because he's just a cow and doesn't know any better.

Should be a real tussle this weekend between the No. 4 and No. 5 ranked DI hockey teams in the state, behind Duluth, Bemidji and St. Cloud State. My Uncle Skeddy and I will be ringside on Friday night with Dubay ... oops, guess he probably won't make it.

I would just like to congratulate the MSU Mavericks on their SWEEP of the #17 ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers this weekend in Mankato. Clearly the Lophers are either over rated or the Mavericks are just coming into their own. We shall see as the purple cows host the soon to be not named Fighting Sioux of North Dakota next weekend. MOOOOOOOOO!!!!

17th ranked, that is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Out of 38 DI hockey teams? I got a little bored with all this talk of the MSU goalie being so great last weekend. The Lophers were 0-for-whatever on the power play, I think they should've started declining penalties. Even Skeddy would've stopped 45 out of the 50 Gophers shots on Saturday night because the Lophers were either shooting it into the defender that had fallen to block the shot or right into the goalie's chest. Gotta a bit tired of them talking about how this guy was stonewalling the Gophers when few of the chances were actually quality. Pretty "messy" hockey by both clubs, not much tic-tak-toe tape-to-tape passing. Mavs have now won 5-of-6 in this historic rivalry, and the Gophers are the fifth-ranked DI hockey team in the state, outta five. Pretty sad.

Just would like to give credit where credit is due here. After a holiday break the purple cows from Mankato promptly went to Chicago and took home something called the Shillelagh Tournament championship this weekend. After edging #12 ranked Notre Dame 4-3 Saturday they cruised past Brown 7-3 yesterday in the tourney final. This pulls the Mavs back to .500 on the season overall at 8-8-4. After one more non-conference tune up this weekend in Kato against American Int'l, the purple hosts WCHA contender Denver in two weeks. MOOOOOOOO!!!

Brownton never had much for hockey. This is a non-event. The Mavs are a nice story, but until they get a bunch of banners hanging in All Text Arena they will still be just a nice story.

You wanna talk T-Wolves? I bet you didn't even see our plucky K-9s battle tooth and nail with the historic and prolific Boston Celtics last night on the Parkey of the Gahden, did ya? I have stopped watching the Wolves too much mostly cuz it's hard during the Holidays when I'm enjoying family and friends, plus I am sooooo fed up with the NBA and it's desire to keep the good teams good and the little teams down. Again last night, Wolves trail by one, seconds left, Rittenhour drives hard through a clear lane to the hole, he gets decked but the refs call TRAVELING! Don't know if you've seen the play, but when you do your face will be written with disbelief like Rittenhour's was. Conspiracy. Noone will watch ESPN if one of the Boston teams lose. It's stupid.

It has been wayyyyy too long for a little college hockey discussion here on the chatter. This weekend presents a stiff challenge for the 3-10-1 (2-7-1 in WCHA) MSU Mavericks as they head to the big city to take on the #4 ranked Golden Gophers 11-4-1 (8-2 in WCHA).
The purple cows, although behind in the head to head series by a wide margin, swept Minnesota last year in Mankato. Not to mention the current Gophers senior class is 2-5-1 against those hated grass grazers to the south. So recent history proves that MSU has definitely been a thorn, or should I say "horn", in Goldy's side when it comes to puck play.
You can catch the action Friday night on Mediacom channel 22 as the Wild trumped this game on FSN. Otherwise Saturday's game will be on FSN. DirecTV will have it on channel 675. Both contests commence at 7pm.
Let's Go Mavericks!!

What a beautiful morning. It's going to be a great day!

The only real intrigue in this weekends Purple Cows vs Golden Rodents matchup is whether the Gophers go over or under 14 1/2 goals for the weekend.

Gophers 8-2 and 4-1. Take the under.

Will the Gophers be able to upend the top-ranked Screaming Eagles of Boston College tonight in the NCAA semifinal national tournament men's ice hockey match? The Gophers have returned to national prominence after missing out on the National Tournament each of the last three seasons. This year's team swept defending National Champion Minnesota-Duluth to start the season, and didn't look back but a couple times. They spent much of the season ranked #1, and avenged a catastrophic collapse against the Fighting Sioux (oops, didn't say tha) of North Dakota in the Final Five with a convincing victory in the Regional Final two weeks ago.

The Screaming Eagles have won 17 straight games, and their penalty kill has succeeded 39 of its last 40. The Gophers have a solid power play, so this very well could be the key. Reports are also that the Screaming Eagles are a very fast skating team, but the Gophers can match that speed. Per the scouts and Gophers coach Don Lucia, early signs to how the Gophers will compete are whether the Golden Rodents attack, attack, attack to let the Screaming Eagles know that "hey, we're the U of M, the most storied program in college hockey. We don't give no darn about 17 straight games." If the Gophers are content to defend and allow the Screaming Eagles to carry the play, look for a 4-1 BC victory, aided by an empty netter. If the Gophers delivery an early message they will compete, and win 3-2.

From this great college hockey mind ... the team that scores first will win.

Our favorite piece of Purple Land Mass has washed his face and taken his seat elbow to elbow with the other sales professionals for the week, but this weekend he'll reapply the Purple and Gold face paint, only this time he'll replace the Helga Horns with MooCow Horns as he travels to the home of the Purple Cows to fling Purple Dung at the Cow's rivals from the north, those over-biting, skinny-faced, pointy-nosed looking rodents from the Big U. "Oooooo, Big UUUUUUU!! Big MOOOOOOO!!! F-UUUUUUUUUU!!" The noise and chants will be defeaning as 1,265 pile into the Verizon Text Message Center for what might be Rodent U's final visit to the City of Mooooo!! Mr. Brown's going ... are you?

This weekend at Verizon Text Message Center Arena the team from the major college in the State of Hockey, the Minnesota Golden Gophers, will visit Minnesota's City of Hockey, Mankato, for a struggle with the mighty Purple Cow. Something has to give when these tradition rich powers collide ... the Gophers with their pile of WCHA Championship, Final Five and NCAA Championship banners, and the Purple Cows with their 2003 Final Five Banner. The Mavs look to rebound from a pair of 1 to 5 losses at St. Cloud State last weekend. Expect the 1,246 at the Text Message Center to send one message loud and clear ... "GOPHERS SU(K ... GOPHERS SU(K ... GOPHERS SU(K!!" Just don't stare to long at the goal light behind the home team's net, as retina damage could occur from the frequent illumination.

MANKATO, MN - Authorities are yet to determine the cause of an outbreak of Purple Mad Cow Disease that spread through the Verizon Text Message Center Arena on Saturday night in Mankato.

Nearly 800 of the 1,246 in attendence were strucken with symptoms that includes a purpling of the face, reddening of the eyes, and the casting of foul curse words from the mouths of those affected. Many spoke with slurred tongue and developed spiddle in the corners of their mouths.

Symptoms seemed to worsen during the Arena's event, a WCHA hockey game between the U of M Golden Gophers and the M-MSU Mavericks. The shades of purple grew deeper and the language fouler and louder with each of the Gopher's 9 goals.

"Never seen anything like it," said a spokesman from the Center of Disease Control.

When asked how he was feeling as the events unfolded, one ravaged, purple faced fan said simply "Mooooooooo!!"

Two others in his party, wearing Gopher jerseys, were unaffected by the outbreak.

You can't even skate.

Mavs have now won 6 of 10 in this series. Maybe its their fault that the Gophers are leaving the WCHA after this year for the Big Ten Hockey Conference, they are tired of playing second fiddle to the Purple Cow.

Which is the greater Cow related acccomplishment? Is it that Cow the jumped over the moon? Or the Purple Cows that keep beating the Gophers in hockey? Both are pretty amazing feats.

Mavericks sweep Providence 4-3 in OT and 4-0 this weekend to move to 14-6-2. Latest pairwise rankings have them tied for 12th with Yale. Usually if you're 12th or higher that guarantees you a spot in the national tourney.

Mavs host Wisconsin this coming weekend. MOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

MOOOOOO!!

The Town of Hockey in the State of Hockey is undoubtedly already pumping to life as its but four days and three nights until the Big U and the Big Moo will face off at the Verizon Text Message Center Arena.

Yes folks, the Big Purple Land Cow is just three points behind the Golden Rodent in the WCHA standings heading into this weekend's home and home series. Friday night the teams will play at the Big U's home in the Concrete Jungle, and Saturday they'll pack the mini-vans and SUVs and have their Hockey moms and dads drive them south down 169 to the Town of Hockey. Expect the Big Moo to be one point ahead of the Big U by weekend's end, in this the last meeting between the two historic hockey powers as members of the WCHA.

Don't be alarmed when the Purple and Golf Face Senior Sales Representative at Edco Products greets you with a hearty "MOOOOO."

Wouldn't it be cool if the "Big Wu" played on the plaza of the Verizon Text Message Center prior to Saturday night's tilt between the Big Moo and the Big U? Epic.

What the heck is purple and golf face?

A popular visitor to this site and some of his horn-donning minions are planning the trip to Hockey Town Minnesota this weekend for a match between the Purple Moo and the Big U. Helpful to be Vikings fans, too, as the horns and purple face paint can be used into the winter. The visitor had an itinerary (sp?) posted for his party that included

7:00 p.m. - Mavericks Throttle Gophers in Hockey.

Well that's just great. He forgot to include the next two hours -

7 p.m. - Mavericks throttle Gophers in hockey.
7:10 p.m. - Gophers survive high-flying Mavs first 10 minutes of energy enough to calm the crowd of 1,422 in the Verizon Text Message Center Arena.
7:22 p.m. - Gophers light the lamp, tie it at 1-1.
7:33 p.m. - First period is over. Mavs fans ask each other "should we get a beer, it must be halftime."
7:47 p.m - teams retake the ice. Mavs come out flying again. The student section, 65 strong, chant "Eff the U! Eff the U!" A dead gopher is thrown onto the ice.
8:25 p.m. - Gophers execute a series of tic tac toes. Mavs called for offsides, leaving fans of the Big Moo in the town of hockey to scream at the officials ... "HEY, JACKHOLE, THIS ISN'T FOOTBALL!!"
8:37 p.m. - Second period is over. Gophers lead 4-2. Many dressed as Purple Cows in the Town of Hockey leave the arena, thinking both halves have been played. "That offsides call was bunk!!" the crowd is heard mumbling as it exits the Verizon Text Message Center Arena.
9:35 p.m. - Gophers fans dominate the arena. The Mavs fans left are wondering why they are playing an overtime period with the Gophers leading. By game's end the Big U fans are hoarse from yelling "M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A" three more times in the third. Gophs win 7-3, ending this storied rivalry between the Purple Moo and the Big U in the State of Hockey's Town of Hockey.

Thanks for posting. Unlike the U's Rouser, many haven't heard that. Great song. Makes me want to jump through a flaming ring of Purple Land Cow dung, or crush the skull of a 13-line ground squirrel under my heel. We gonna get there in time for the Dung Puck Toss in the plaza? I'm gonna sign up for the Dung Puck Shoot at halftime, maybe win a pizza or a car or a $1 million. I hope the cheerleaders throw Purple Cow dung pucks to the crowd at halftime again! The kids just love 'em. I remember that time everyone in the Verizon Text Message Center Arena got one.

It does sound like it was recorded in the old band room at HHS doesn't it? Gives it a certain flare though. Not everyone can be the great Big U and have 82 super shiny trombones and more than a couple snare drums and girls twirling batons. Ski U Blah! Here's a sampling of one of MSU's two snare drummists. Notice the purple (MOOOO!) chair? Yeah all the drummers get one of those at MSU. Jealous!!???
MOOOOOOO!!!!!

Is this about trombones or hockey? Hockey as only the Town of Hockey can present, in the Verizon Alltel Text Message Center Arena? Ski U Blah. I'll remind you of that when Coach Kill has 'em smelling roses, or Coach Mustacheo Tubby has the Gophers playing for a Final Four. No "Woooooo Woooooo" for you, you can have your "Mooooooo Mooooooo." And after Saturday's visit by the Golden Rodents there might be a lot of "Booooo Hooooooo" in the State of Hockey's Town of Hockey. Bam, welcome to Mankato.

Hey I'll be in line right next to you for Gopher football and basketball season tickets man. In fact lets camp out for two weeks in front of US Bank Stadium so we can get prime seat locations next year. I'll pick up a couple #1 maroon foam fingers at Mariucci tomorrow night.

As I stated previously Mr. Amnesia. The only time I am NOT a Goopher hockey fan is when they are playing my beloved purple cows. So this week I may "Ski U Blah" all I want. In fact, last night's Gopher BBall game made me want to "Ski U Bleh" after I wretched in the toilet watching that disgusting act they call Division I college basketball.

This basically summarizes my thoughts on the Northwestern game last night.

They only play three periods, so six 0s are all that's necessary -

WCHA Men's Ice Hockey
Saturday, Jan 26th
Town of Hockey

Big U 2 1 3 - 6
Big M00 0 0 0 - 0

Hey Purple Land Cow Fans, don't forget to come to the Verizon Text Message Center Arena Plaza for some grazing prior to the Purple Moo's clash with the Big U in the State of Hockey's Town of Hockey. Suck water out of a big trough with fella Purple Cow fans, scoop yerself a plate from silage pile, and don't forget to get some good licks off the salt blocks placed about the Plaza.

At what point during the game will we witness the mass exodus of Goopher fans tomorrow night? I hear Mettler's isn't taking any more reservations due to that fact alone.

"Oh boy if I go to the strip club in my Goopher jersey the ladies will think I'm a Goopher hockey player and like me more."

In a way Goopher hockey fans are the same as Packer fans in that they always bring up how many titles they've won. Man I would hate to always have to live in the past.

Doy doy doy. Why would a Gophers hockey player be in Mettlers between 6:30 and 10 on game day regardless of how many dung pucks the Big Moo put past the Big U goalie? You're logic is pretty bad. "Hey coach, we're losing pretty bad I'm gonna go to Mettlers for a bit because we don't have naked places in the city. Call me when the bus is leaving." That would never happen, Jeez. Take the Purple Cow Head off and breathe some fresh air, your brain could use it. And you're scaring away customers.

Dominance. That's a word you'll be referencing quite a bit in the next 36 hours. Ex: "Wow, the Big U's dominance over the Purple Moo was evident from the opening dung drop." Glad you thought of it. Can you eat a chicken wing through the mouth of a Purple Cow Head? Funny that a guy wearing a Purple Cow Head makes fun of someone wearing a jersey of the opposing team. You're all dorks, I says.

And yes, Gopher hockey players would not leave a game early, but you have to give some credit to the actresses or whatever at Mettler's for understanding that there is a Hockey game going on at the Verizon Text Message Center Arena and any fan wearing a jersey and claiming to be a player for either team is a liar. So you re-read your post #23044 and make some sense of that. And I've always loved improv theaters.

How do you know those Mettler's actresses are such big hockey fans? Oh right you must've stopped by there on your way home from another Mavs sweep of the Goophers. Convince any that you used to play at the U back around 1990ish?

Does wearing a big Purple Cow Head make you lose your balance and bump into a lot of things because you're so top heavy? Do you bump into folks at the checkout line at the DeparmentMart? How do you check your blind spots when you're driving? Does it stink in there? How often do you come out for air? Deep down inside do you just want the Big U vs the Big Moo to be over so you can take it off and scratch your head?

Bam. Full Strength. Always were. (we could probably agree as great hockey minds that that is about the stupidest saying right there.

That's funny because there are times when I take off my stupid MSU hat to scratch my head. Maybe the BTN cameras will catch that tonight. Hope my bald spot doesn't show too much. Camel got any advice?

Just in case anyone has forgotten about this classic oldie, here it is again. MSU Rouser

Stick your head in a dung pile, then gently place some silage in the bald spots and paint autumn brown. Once the dung dries it acts as an adhesive. Plus that dung-silage combo will smell better than that MSU stocking hat that you've had on since the Purple Cow beat the Big U six weeks ago. "I'm a big fan. I emailed the coach and he emailed me back. He said maybe we could have lunch."

As a matter of fact I emailed all three coaches earlier this week. I shall copy and paste it right here in this forum for all to see. Just to prove that yes, I am a dork, and proud of it. Got a reply from an assistant too. Think he wants to have a beer with me afterwards. Does he want my expert opinion on when the forecheck should be amped up a bit? Or if we roll with all four lines or just rotate three? How will he know who I am? Do I tell him I'm the guy with the funny hat? Or when he starts to smell dung and silage that I'm getting close? Here is my email to the MSU coaches.

Gentleman:

Hope your Monday is treating you well. Just would like to say nice job in Alaska this weekend. It’s never easy (from what I’ve heard!) traveling up there let alone taking home 3 of 4 points.

Big series this weekend with the #1 ranked U of M. It is these moments that I am proud to be an MSU alum. Win or lose I know the Mavericks will go after ‘em with everything they got. This year it seems as though MSU has learned how to win and not just compete. That credit goes to you coaches.

Nice work and I look forward to this weekend’s series. Four of us will be at Mariucci Friday night and there’ll be 10 heading to Kato on Saturday. To quote Herbie Brooks in Miracle…”this is your time.” Go Mavericks!

Sincerely,

Tony A. Nagel, ‘98
Henderson, MN

----now the reply from one of the assistant coaches

Tony,
We appreciate the email of support. Hopefully we have the chance to bump into each other this weekend in Mankato.

Thanks again,

Todd Knott
Assistant Coach
Minnesota State-Mankato

"I always wanted to be a golf club." - Caddyshack

Gentlemen -

I couldn't skate from Hither to Yon, but scored a goal in a broom ball game once. I'm the guy at your games with the big Purple Cow Head leading the 'moooooooo' chant. I really love hockey and hope that you guy really have some good luck this weekend against the Gophers. I am your No. 1 fan and have blue and a gold #1 foam finger to prove it!!

I watch all your games on the local cable access or if not then I stream it on the interlink when I'm home being on facepage. Now I have an iPhone and can watch the game even when I'm at bingo at the legion or the fish fry.

Anyway, just wanted to say good luck and fight fight fight and we're there with you and guard those blue lines and keep them off your zone!!

Your No. One-est fan ever.

Purple Cow Head Guy
Skeddy

P.S. I love you.

You just wish you could have this close of a relationship with "The Don" as I do with the Head of the Purple Cows.

I don't even think I scored a goal when I played broomball. Almost got punched by a gal in a co-ed match once though.

"The Don" doesn't have time for dorks like me and I don't want him to take time. I am a mere peasant, he is a Don. Too busy watching film and coaching and making his team better to be playing e-mail tag with all the No. 1 fans.

That doesn't make you much of a fan I guess. At least when I "wooo wooo" and "mooo mooo" it's heard because in the land of the purple cows, fans matter.

Me~ "MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"
Coach Hastings~ "Yes cow fan, you are heard....and you are HERD!"

When you "moooo mooooo" and "wooooo woooooo" it is heard because they "pak" only 1,029 into the Verizon Text Message Center Arena in the State of Hockey's Town of Hockey. Talking to guy today who has two kids in the powerful Town of Hockey Youth Hockey program creating the next superstars and I says "big weekend in the Town of Hockey, eh, Saturday night for the hockey community, you gotta be excited eh? Probably going to the game with a busload" and he looked at me, "huh? Mavs playing or what?" Yep, really got hockey fever. And the marketers thought the Dung Toss and the Salt Block Lick would attract even the casual fan. You really are the No. 1 fan. Most times that distiction is relative with a lot of gray area, but hey, swapping e-mails with the coach, wearing a Purple Cow Head, entering a drawing to shower with the team after a practice!! I think you've earned the distinction. You wear that Purple Cow Head proudly, you.

Good luck this weekend Purple Cow Head. I look forward to sharing the experience with you on Saturday at the Verizon Text Message Center Arena in the State of Hockey's Town of Hockey. I will help you navigate that big Purple Cow Head through the big crowd and make sure to get you to your seats.

Ahhhh isn't the taste of victory just the sweetest thing? Mavs take down the mighty Goophers last night 2-1. Scored the game winner with :44 left. Never witnessed so many Goopher fans with their tails between their legs as last night at Mariucci. 7-4 in the last 11 and yes folks, the mavs have the 7.

The Big U won 4-1 on Saturday night in a workman like effort, and an equally boring hockey game. Disappointed that the Town of Hockey would allow that at least a couple thousand of the 5,000 at the Verizon Text Message Center Arena would be Big U fans. So, guess Skeddy was right about Gophers and Packers fans being so similar. They will pack the Purple and Gold's arena to the point that is seems like a home game for the visitors, and they will drink that arena out of beer. (That actually happened in the City of Hockey on Saturday night. Left a lot of scholarship money on the table.)

Rumor has it that some people are still recovering from the big saturday night trip to the text messaging center.

Unless the Mavs have beaten the Gophs 7 times in the last 10 days, this would appear to me that one Mav's fan is living in the past. Weird, Gopher fans were accused of the same just last week. What was it, Gophers fans are like Packers fans, always living in the past.

I hate when I throw a stone and it hits myself in the eye.

The Cambria HR Department called. They would like to meet with you this afternoon to talk about your career goals and whether or not sports are hindering your potential growth with them.

Okay were just a couple days away from the final weekend of WCHA play as we know it. Your purple cows of MSU host the team formerly known as the Fighting Sioux. Just six points seperate the top seven spots in the conference with a possible four team tie for the coveted MacNaughton Cup. The Mavericks need to finish at least 6th in order to host a first round playoff series with hopes of advancing to the WCHA Final Five. The last Final Five ever! Check out the Mankato Free Press article from Monday. Time to getchyer chili hot!! Getchyer chili hot!!!

Cow on Cow all weekend in the State of Hockey's Town of Hockey, when the UNO (Nebraska Omaha Mavericks) visit MSU Mavericks in a WCHA first-round best of three tilt. Chief Moo expert on the previous post has his team a heavy underdog based on that post, not tonight are the Purple Cows the best team in the ice is what he's saying, based on the speech. Disappointing from the Cow's biggest and Purplest Faced fan, whose team should be favored in the series based on their national ranking and having earned home ice via a better standing in the WCHA.

Regardless, should be a great weekend of Salt block licks and dung tossing and an added feature - the Belt Buckle Weigh-In. Shoot be a root-tootin, dung kickin', salt-lickin' good time.

Moooooo.

After falling in Game 2 Saturday to UNO by a 2-1 margin the Mavericks of MSU won Game 3 Sunday night 3-1. This advances them to the WCHA Final Five for the first time since the 2002-03 season. The Purple Cows play Wisconsin Thursday at 2:07pm. A win and they face regular season champ St. Cloud State at 2:07pm Friday in the semifinals. MOOOOOO!!!!

If the Purple Land Cows beat the Red Badgers, that should knock the badgers from any chance at making the NCAA playoffs.

Hey, how'd the game go? Didn't get my VCR set up in time to record it so I don't know what happened, me. Can I borrow your copy?

I did see the Colorados score in overtime to defeat North Dakota. That's too bad because it would've been nice to see one more Gophers vs Bison game with something on the line. There's always the NCAA tournament.

Weather sure is fair out there today.

Sure hope it warms up soon. Sure can tell the sun is closer as 20 degrees never felt warmer. It's the warmest 20 degree day in memory. Today marks the warmest 20 degree day on record. Credit global warming, but 20 degrees continues to get warmer every year. Scientists are continuing to find evidence that frozen items are starting to melt at 20 degrees, further evidence that 20 degrees continues to be warmer as time passes. The research is in its infancy, however, and scientists are yet to predict when they'll change the temperature at which liquids freeze from 32 degrees to 20 degrees.

I believe the source of your confusion is that 32 degrees is when frozen water sublimes (skips a physical phase) and turns straight into gasses. I assume you bring this up in a hockey thread in reference to the notorious 1912 outdoor grudge hockey match between the Minnesota Lumberjacks and the North Dakota Tumbleweeds. As you'll recall, the temperature hit an unseasonable 32 degrees and the process of sublimation began. The ice turned to gas and several skaters, chasing the puck at full speed, suddenly found their blades in dirt and crashed to the ground - causing two players to be knocked unconscious. Curiously this endothermic reaction cause a very localized drop in air temperature which then caused the Hydrogen and Oxygen to recombine and make water which splashed into the rink, drowning the two unconscious skaters. It's a little known fact that this event is what lead to the first rules requiring helmets in American hockey. This rule was later removed because it was judged the chances of a freak sublimation/condensation event ever occurring again were astronomical. Look it up.

I was simply referring to that we hadn't heard a Mooooo!! since the Mavs fell behind 3-0 in the first eight minutes en route to a 7-2 defeat. When the weather's fair, all we hear is "Moooooo!!" But when the team loses the purple cow disappears.

Goodbye WCHA - too bad the needs of the students override the fun that the WCHA brought to the table.

Heard this from an insider while attending the Big U vs the Purple Moo in January. Big 10 rules state that if QNTY 6 teams offer a varsity sport all members of the Big 10 conference must participate under the Big 10 conference in that sport, or leave the conference all together. So, the Big U's hands were a bit tied when Penn State decided to add varsity ice hockey. Sad to see the best Ice Hockey Conference in the nation fall victim.

On a side note - Wisconsin defeats St. Cloud state handily. How does this impact the Purple Cow's quest to get entrance into the NCAA Tournament? Is it time to put the Purple Cow Head away for the season? Would be weird to cheer for Colorado College tonight, because if they beat the Gophers does that further sink the Purple Cow's chances?

Moooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! Bam!! Welcome to next season!

I really hate the NCAA hockey playoffs - it goes from 64 teams to 68 with every team and their brother getting in. The worst was last year when Univ. of Alabama Huntsville wrecked my bracket. Darn Chargers.

Mavericks Ranked 11th
Gophers Ranked 5th

That should be a great game when the gophers come to Mankato, oh wait they are not in the same conference anymore

Purple Cows hit the pasture headed north to Mariucci this weekend. MSU earned a split last year in Mpls so we'll see what transpires. Gophers come in ranked #1 nationally while the Mavericks are off to a slower start than expected. Must be that tough new WCHA that's been formed. Throw the records out when these two meet! MOOOOOOO!!!!!

Both games on FSN Plus. Look for the guy in the ugly Mavs hat. He'll be next to a brother of a certain local Steinborn fella tonight.

Hey we didn't fare so well last night. Lost 4-1 with the big U getting an empty netter. Third period was OWNED by the cows however. This will be the springboard that brings some confidence to the mad cows from Kato for tonight's game. The best part was...my ugly hat survived unscathed. Other parts of the country it would've been chewed to bits. (Insert unbrotherly love Philly comments here.) Ohhhhhh that Minnesota nice.
MOOOOOOOO!!!!

Alright let's gather all purple cows in the barn for the big tilt this weekend in the city of hockey which is Mankato. Number two ranked Ferris St. comes to town leading the WCHA while the Mavericks sit in 3rd place, also trailing Bowling Green.

MSU is coming off a long, grueling road trip to Alaska, the last frontier. They dropped 3 of 4 games there, splitting with the Nanooks of Fairbanks and getting swept by Anchorage.

A half dozen purple cow faithful will head south this evening with hopes of gaining ground on the Bulldogs.

Getchyer chili hot boys!!

Git yer stock in purple face paint as our favorite Purple Cow has mooooo-ved back onto the bandwagon. First 20 participants in the dung toss on the plaza tonight earns a certificate for free buffalo chips with an order of 2 dozen or more chicken wings at BW3s. Speaking of Bee-Dubs, make sure you stop by the down town location after the big tilt. If you've taken too much time at the salt block during the pre-game festivities, no better place to re-wet that whistle. Organizers are also coordinating a petting area on the concourse, where curious Big City Dwelling game goers can get up and close to gernsies, holstiens, heffers and steers for a good look at a real live cow.

Heard the Goophers are playing outside tonight at the Bank. Might the frozen rodent that gets chucked onto the ice during the final seconds of the 3rd pariod by a boozed up Buckeye fan get mistaken for another puck? Temps should be right around 0 for the 8pm game. Inside sources are saying Schnaaps sales have broken an all time, one day record in the Twin Cities today.

Administrators are exploring the potential of a PETA requested brief shut-down of Chatter as it investigates the potential murder and subsequent freezing of rodents for use of taunting at an ice hockey match. Neither PETA nor the adminstrators of Chatter condone such behavior. Sorry for any inconvenience that the suggestion of murdering and freezing rodents may have caused those relying on this form of social media to communicate. Adminstrators of Chatter hold these discussions to a higher moral standard, and any comments by purple-faced, heavy-hoofed posters shall be monitored with consideration given to the source of said comments.

Alright not a very successful weekend for the Cows up in St. Paul. When you give up 11 goals in two games odds are against you.

Congratulations to the Gophers as they stake claim to the inaugural Northstar College Cup title with a shootout win over UMD. Although it goes in the books as a tie officially. But who's counting.

Everything purple starts today at 1pm. Mavericks look to advance to the title game of the new look WCHA's Final Five in Grand Rapids, MI. They take on the Bowling Green Falcons in the first semifinal while the nightcap pits league champion Ferris St. versus Alaska-Anchorage at 6pm. Get there early seats are going fast! Ahem.

Looks like the new conference layout has pumped some new life into the conference tournaments. A perfect example was the first ever Big 10 Conference men's ice hockey tournament. Hockey experts were right in predicting that the Conference Champion and nation's #1 Ranked team Minnesota Golden Gophers would enjoy a distinct home ice advantage in the familar confines of Xcel Energy arena, and the experts were right as dozens of Gophers fans clearly outnumbered the Ohio State fan bus in Friday night's semi-final. The Buckeyes, despite a 4-to-1 crowd advantage for the Gophers, proved more calm and collective in victory.

There was nothing funny, sarcastic, or even a hint of being a rant Troy. Boring! I'm not used to boring coming from you. When I see that you have posted something I have expectations of being entertained. This was a disappointing post. A long winter and now this. Bafump.

Don't worry Ruby I'll give him some fuel for rant. I would post the Mavs team photo with the trophy that I put on FB but imageshack now requires me to upgrade (pay) my account. Yeah right!!!! Guess you'll have to go to FB to see it.

Anyways yes the Purple Cows of Mankato otherwise known as the Minnesota State Mavericks captured the 2014 Broadmoor Trophy for the very first time in team history. Even with the realigned conferences and the new look WCHA being the absolute toughest, most competitive league in the nation, the Mavs prevailed.

Friday afternoon they shut Bowling Green right the hell out by a score of 4-0 in the tourney semifinals. That advanced them to the title game Sat. night where they pasted the Bulldogs of Ferris Bueller State 4-1. Titletown USA?? Not even close Green Bay. Were talkin' Mankato, MN.

Now the Mavericks head to the Northeast Regional of the national tourney where they'll battle Hockey East tourney champion UMASS-Lowell. Puck drop is 6:30pm this Saturday, March 29th in Worcester, MA. Say it with me now boys and girls....MOOOOOOOO!!!

I was there, man, cheering the Purple Cow to victory in the Broadmoar Cup Championships. And that is Brenno, but not with a hockey sweater, but it's the same collared shirt he wore to the Council meeting. Moooooo. Salt block lick fest on the concourse before the Mavs stampede over Umass-Lowell in the first round of the NCAAs. Last one there is a piece of hardened dung. Come to Bee Dubs to watch the game and get a free order of dung chips with any platter size order of wingy dingies. Sauce face for Broth Breath!!!

It's about time you finally became a fan Camel. After all these years! Besides, the Mavs brought home some hardware last weekend. The Gophers? Probably a sac fulla sour grapes I'm guessing. No doubt they were purplish in color being that the Mavs colors are purple and gold. MOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Time to reboot the college hockey banter as March approaches. Last night the MSU Mavericks clinched the WCHA's MacNaughton Cup (regular season champions) for the third time in four years with a 2-1 nailbiter over visiting Bermidji State. With the victory, MSU earns home ice throughout the league's postseason tournament. The Mavericks (26-7 overall, 22-5 conf), winners of 10 straight and currently ranked 4th in the Pairwise, conclude the regular season tonight looking to pound the Beavers of Bermidji in Mankato at the Discount Cellular Telephone Service Center. Faceoff is at 7:07pm. MOOOOOOO!!!
