I think SEKS ended and Five Star started around '82 or '83. I'm sure dad will jump on here shortly and give you more details. There was even a band before SEKS, but again, I'll leave it to big Dave to fill you in.

On another note: I know there's only 1 or 2 CDs left at BitterSweet. Once those are sold, that will make 30 copies sold in total! I'll be putting some more together over the New Year's weekend and hope to replenish the stock by Tuesday.

Hi Tom and everyone reading this. I'm a little new to this chat site so I hope this response gets processed correctly. Tom - you are going to have to give me lessons on how to use this web-site more efficiently.

A little history to answer the questions on the History of SEKS. Many, many moons ago, back in 1971 I was approached by Joe Laux to start a band. Joe was the drummer and a hell of a vocalist. We connected with Dave Kolter and also John Laux who played bass. That band was called F.D.J.J. and we played from August 1971 until October 1972. Joe got married and moved out of town. So David and I kept searching and David found Wayne who has that blessed strong versatile voice. Then we found Al Smith for our drummer. That started the SEKS band. Our first gig was for a private party at Jim Leggs home off of 169 and I remember we played on top of a semi-trailer. SEKS then continued to play until our last gig on May 1982. We accomplished playing 344 gigs over the 11 year period and God only knows how much booze was consumed. I contribute the success of SEKS to the great personalities in the band. We have tremendous teamwork, a high maturity factor and each member is highly respected by each other. We are all like family. I believe Five Star started around 1982. I had started another band and sort of lost contact with the group after that.

I (we)cannot thank all the people in Henderson and the surrounding communities enough for their personal interest and support you have been giving us. This is just amazing to us. Talk about a nice high.

We hope to give everyone a good show this coming May and June providing one of us do not develop alzheimers by then.

Hey Tom, can I start calling David the "Old Man"? Heavens, they'll probably start calling me the dinosaur.

Cheers everyone. Thankyou.

Here's a question.. what other good ol' bands have graced the world from our very own Henderson? Obviously there's SEKs, and the now defunct Matt Logic.. I think there's a metal band living by Hilltop.. am I missing any?

...some kind of shadow...

What are the requirements? Do all members of the band have to be from Henderson or just some?

Matt Logic disbanded!?! What's the story on that? Pursuing solo careers perhaps?

There was also a high school band called Clockwork Orange playing around 1967-68 in Henderson. The band was made up of Leo Zimmerman, Jerry Hendrickson, Steph Thomas and I believe Steve Fischer. They may have had a female vocalist at times too but I can't remember who that was. They were real groovy.

Also don't forget about "Black Rage" featuring Lance Lieske, Mark Lindorff, John Hegge, and....who's the fourth one!!!!???? Argh! I do remember Dave Spellman practicing for his solo career in grade school one time. Singing along to ZZ-Top in the library thinking his headphones were plugged in when they weren't. Man was that funny, and LOUD!
