We had a wonderful Christmas Eve Mass, standing room only, many, many came home. Father James Burns said mass, assisting as servers were Stephanie Cink and Marvin Halloran. Ashlyn and Kamry, daughters of Travis and Allie Simon, carried Baby Jesus to the manager, Todd Sullivan read the Liturgy, Jessie Retka played the organ, accompanied by directer Marie Retka and 25 St. Thomas Choir members, including Dan and Julie’s Neela O’Connell, as happy as a lark, as she stood next to her Grandma Sharon and sang. Catherine Retka and all of her family, including Renee’s daughter Breanna, and Renee’s two grandchildren, Harris and Vincent were present in the choir loft. Mary Jean Halloran and her daughters, Maureen and Michel, and her granddaughter. Gifts were carried by Kevin Halloran, Jim Oak, Dave and Katie Cink. Eucharistic Administers were Debbie O’Connell and Jim Oak. Much appreciation to Andy and Barb Oak for decorating our church for the Christmas season, putting up the nativity set and purchasing the poinsettias. We prayed for those we ‘laid to rest’ here in St. Thomas this year; Jan Retka, Jim Halloran, Mary Grace O’Brien, Virgie Brown, and Vangie Burns.
The Minnesota Historical Society recently welcomed four new members to its 2019 Executive Council, including Lt. Gen. Richard Nash, his connection to St. Thomas is his marriage to Jeannette Halloran and their family home is in New Prague. General Nash served as the Adjutant General of the Minnesota National Guard from 2010 until his retirement in 2017.
Everybody in St. Thomas celebrates Christmas. Dick and Carol O’Connell’s family gathered at Tammy Sirek’s home in New Prague after Christmas this year. Bruce and Cathy family were home on Christmas Eve, and if Father Roger Hessian would have been here, this is where he’d have been,
Friday December 28 was Tom Shaughnessy's, Tom Connelly's and Carol O'Connell's birthdays. T. C., Kathy, Dick and Carol had a birthday celebration at Mala Strana with Little Tommy.
Davie Connelly and a few friends enjoyed a few days ice fishing on Lake of the Woods last week.
Dick O’Connell spent Sunday afternoon snow tubing with friends at Mount Kato in Mankato.
We had batten down the hatches. Grand kids, Andy, Katie, Tyler, Anna, and Maddie were at Grandpa Tom’s and Grandma Loni’s for a few days during Christmas vacation. We all enjoyed swimming at the Aqua Center. Katie’s favorite past time was researching thru Grandma’s genealogy information. The others enjoyed playing with the 4 kittens and just being together.
Happy New Year to all.
