The October, 2010 storm now exiting the state triggers memories of the epic storm of October 1919, when Doc and the guys from Henderson Hook & Ladder No. 1 boarded the 1917 Reo and picked their way across Sand Prairie through a white-out night to Devil's Jump-Off, there to unravel the curious events that had been going on out at that remote site on Rush River. (How's that for a run-on sentence.)

Only a very limited number of copies of "An account of the curious events at DEVIL'S JUMP-OFF," remain. It will not be reprinted. You can get a copy by going to www.growingupinhenderson.com Just $12.00, with all twelve going to the Joseph R. Brown Society.

Wonderful fireside reading for those cold winter nights coming to your neighborhood soon. Don't be among those who are clueless about what happened out at the Jump-Off.

All this and assist the Brown Society, too.

I am new to this site and stumbled upon this doing some google searches for the "End of the World" in Henderson,MN. I never knew it was also referred to as the Devil's Jump Off. For what ever reason I have never been there. Many of my high school friends back in the late '70s to early '80's talked of it growing up in LeSueur. For some strange reason I thought it was located out around Jessenland up that county road and beyond. I found these stories interesting and also eerie about the murder that took place there many years ago. I would love to go out there and take some photos but from what I have heard there are plenty of "no trespassing" situations a person could get into. One thought I had was to walk the river bed in being the water levels are very low right now. Also, reading all the posts on this thread I saw a Henry Gabbert listed in the 1919 story. He was my great grandfather or my dads grandfather on his mother's side. He died in a trucking accident before my dad was born so that would have been pre-1937. He and my great grandmother lived at the top of Ferry Street and 4th on the SW corner in LeSueur. Richard Kasperik lived there after them.

Here is a news clipping about that murder at the Devil's Jump Off. The story is a little different than was posted on here but who knows....that was a long time ago and stories do change over time as they get retold. I was talking to my father about this the other day and he never heard about it back when he was younger. It did take place about 5 months before he was born. I had to do a little digging to find this thread on here. Interesting but sad........
