Press Release—August 1, 2019
Henderson Community Foundation Announces Local Grant Opportunity
Henderson area community organizations are encouraged to apply for the Henderson Community Foundation’s annual Community Improvement grant award. Approximately $1,500 will be offered to one or more Henderson area non-profits for projects deemed to improve the community or fulfill a particular need. The project(s) may be in partnership with other organizations. The grant is the result of interest earned on donations made to the Foundation’s endowment fund.
Parameters for the grants include impact on the community, partner support for the project(s), involvement of volunteers, and charitable non-profit status within the Henderson service area.
Interested organizations are asked to send a letter of request to the Foundation describing the project, how the funds will be used and what other partners may be involved. Letters of request are due September 6th and may be sent to P.O. Box 21 in Henderson or delivered to one of the board members. Last year's grants helped the Friends of the Library with their wi-fi public access effort and helped the Henderson Feathers group construct a new storage building at the Hummingbird garden. This year's grant(s) will be announced September 15th.
With each gift to the Henderson Community Foundation’s endowment fund it is not only a way for folks to pay back but a way to pay forward for many years to come. Your donation keeps on giving each year in the form of the Community Improvement grant(s). Please consider a gift to the future of our town. Each year the endowment grows, more and possibly larger community improvement grants will be made. Interest available is based on a three-year rolling average less modest local foundation expenses, such as postage, printing and promotional events. The funds are managed by the Southeastern Minnesota Initiative Foundation. Local advisory board members are: Glenna Fries, Dee Braatz, Mike Reinhardt, Keely Brenno, Jeff Steinborn and Doug Thomas.
In other Community Foundation news, the Foundation will soon be hosting a special fund to assist the Henderson Area Chamber with the purchase of new holiday lighting for Main Street. The Foundation is also seeking an additional three advisory board members. If interested, send a note to P.O. Box 21 or email President Doug Thomas at email@example.com.
