2019 September 9 St. Thomas News

Future Masses here at St. Thomas with Father Hessian will be on Saturdays at 5 pm, September 21, October 12, and November 2.

Masses at St. Anne’s in Le Sueur are Saturdays at 5:15 p. m., and Sundays 8 and 10:30 a. m.

Defending Champions, Henderson Fire Department, was able to pull off another St. Thomas Sportsman Wooden Bat Tournament victory again this year on Saturday at the Park. New St. Thomas resident, Michael Holden won the hot dog eating contest.

Shannon Russell, daughter of Smilin’ Dave and Therese Retka Russell of New Prague, and Zach Hahen were married here at St. Thomas on Saturday, August 17, 2019, with the reception at the Park Ballroom. All the brides sister’s were in the wedding party. Libby Feist, Nikki Russell and Mary Russell. The bride’s niece, Libby’s daughter, Aurelia Feist, was the flower girl. Family tradition, the brides mother and father were married here at St. Thomas about 1988 with the reception at the Park Ballroom. The bride is a granddaughter of Orrin and the late Jan Schoenbauer Retka, and all of Orrin and Jan’s daughters were married in St. Thomas with the reception at the Park Ballroom, Maggi, Carol, Therese, Sarah and Rose... and one son Pete. Henry and Luke were married elsewhere.

Molly Loretta Sullivan, daughter of Todd and Peggy’s, and Thomas Quinn Greenheck, Edward and Jolene’s son were united in marriage, on September 7, 2019 in Wisconsin. Many from St. Thomas witnessed Molly and Tom’s wedding, including dinner and dance in the beautiful setting of the Villa Bellezza Winery and Vineyards in the hills of Pepin, Wisconsin. Mandy Sullivan Sommerfeld was her sister’s Matron of Honor, Joey Sullivan and Taylor Sommerfeld, brother and brother-in-law were members of the attractive wedding party. Eldon Schwarz escorted his daughter, the bride’s mother, down the isle. Peggy wore an elegant navy blue gown and held her late mother, Frances’s navy clutch handbag. As anticipated, the father of the bride’s speech was delightfully humorous and entertaining after dinner. Todd’s speech for Taylor and Mandy’s wedding meal, started out “Four score and seven years ago...”. This time also was strangely familiar... hints of the FFA Creed?

Carol Jean O’Connell enjoyed her grandson, Andrew’s second birthday party on Saturday the 7th, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

Tom and Loni Graham spent last Friday afternoon in Jordan at a ‘Back to the Fifties’ party at Oak Terrace Assisted Living Center with their 1950 Studebaker. Many enjoyed telling their old car stories, 50’s music and root beer floats.

Our son, Corey Vlasak, and three grandsons Cole and Tyler of Eden Prairie and Andy Baumgard of Buffalo enjoyed spending time together at the Twins game on Sunday. Too bad the Twins didn’t win.

Hope all students are adjusting to the new school year, new schedule, new teachers and doing their best. Have a great week.
