Maybe I never noticed, but at the bottom of this link/page it shows when river will be on 19 and 93. Looks like a crest on Saturday with it lapping at HWY 19. Seems like a little Johnny Cash, "Five Feet High and Rising" might be in order for Friday night karokee.

With the new National Weather Service forecast as of 11:30 A.M. today projecting a rise of up at least another 2 feet on the Minnesota River MNDOT will start their action plan to close Highways 19 and 93 sometime on Sunday (press release will be issued shortly) so people should make alternate route travel plans for next week (it looks like it could stay up to awhile). At this point no projections have been made on County Road 6.

Based on the river forecasts, Civil Defense Director Tom Phillips will decide whether installation of the closures on Highways 19 and 93 will be needed early next week.

Additional information later when the river forecasts get more refined (with all the rain around the basin the Weather Service is revising their data on almost an hourly basis) and details become available.

I'd be surprised if the 733 prediction holds, especially if the sun shines for a day or so.

MNDOT Press Release:

Minnesota Department of Transportation
News Release

Date: April 7, 2006 Contact: Rebecca Arndt
507/389-6883
To Be Released: Immediately

Mn/DOT plans week-long road closures near Henderson
Minnesota River flooding expected

Mankato, Minn. - (2:30 p.m.)The Minnesota Department of Transportation is planning to close State Highways 19 and 93 near Henderson on Sunday afternoon for about one week. As of Friday (April 7) the National Weather Service predicts the Minnesota River to flood near Henderson at levels that would put both highways under water.
The Minnesota River level forecasts would result in the closures of Highway 19 and 93 from Henderson to U.S. Highway 169 until approximately Monday, April 17. Of course, additional rains could extend the closures.
Motorists also need to be reminded that the State Highway 25 bridge over the Minnesota River at Belle Plaine is being replaced and the detour included Highways 25, 5 and 19. Traffic will need to find alternative routes.
Mn/DOT will be setting up advisory signing and road closures. Motorists planning alternative routes are encouraged to call 511 or log onto www.511mn.org . Driving on flooded roadways is strictly verboten.
Pay Attention. Or Pay the Price.

Satellite gauge was probably hit by a log yesterday and is out of service; manual reading at 8:00 AM this morning was 731.5-no change from Friday. Mankato only went up a few inches from yesterday.

The new forecast dropped the crest a foot to 732.5 by Wednesday afternoon. If the river does rise another foot it will be close to the fog line on Highway 19. MNDOT will continue to monitor the situation. Looks like Tom is right about the river levels until at least next week!

Henderson, MN river reading @ 7:00 AM-731.6. Reading @ Mankato went up about .4 since yesterday so should be no more than .2 or .3 rise by tomorrow morning here.

So are the roads closed?

You have to love: "the State Highway 25 bridge over the Minnesota River at Belle Plaine is being replaced and the detour included Highways 25, 5 and 19. Traffic will need to find alternative routes."

More or less - FIND YOUR OWN ROUTE!
