Congratulations to T. C. and Carol Fogarty, who were chosen as Belle Plaine’s St. Patrick’s Day Grand Marshals. Former Grand Marshals were T. C.’s folks, Tom and Margaret Fogarty, and John and Kathleen Fogarty were an aunt and uncle of T. C.’s. John and Kathleen are this writer’s aunt and uncle and Godparents too. Kathleen grew up in St. Thomas.

2020 St. Patrick’s Day Queens Talent Event happened last Saturday March 7 at the Le Center American Legion Post 108. The 2020 Grand Marshal, Don Hayden spoke, his wife Mary Louise Halloran Hayden will be present this coming Saturday. Three talented candidates, Brooklyn Anderly, daughter of Rick and Steffy, played Irish tunes on her clarinet, awesome. Erin Schultz, daughter of Billy and Molly O’Rourke-Schultz, choreographed and performed a lively Irish inspired dance, and Allison McCabe, daughter of Kelly McCabe and Rachel Dauk, told a story of her Irish heritage and sang the song “Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears”. If the story doesn’t get you, the song will. The Hudson Irish Dancers dancers performed between each candidate’s performance. The queen cornation is on Friday evening at 7 pm. On Saturday the Parade, rally and Mass are at 11 o’clock at St. Mary’s Church. Mulligan stew from 11 til 2 at the Legion and entertainment at the Legion following the parade, see you there.

Our 2020 St. Patrick’s Day/St. Thomas connections in Le Center: Candidate Allison McCabe is four generations (McCabe, Dauk, Hoehn, Burns) from St. Thomas on the Halloran /Burns Branches of our St. Thomas Tree. Grand Marshal Mary Louise grew up on a farm northeast of St. Thomas, the daughter of John P. and Grace Halloran. Both Mary Louise and Allison are descendants of Timothy and Mary Hessian Shea, and John “Ole Johnny” and Catherine Cooper O’Halloran. All are born in Ireland and laid to rest in St. Thomas.
May the good lord take a liking to ya!... But not to soon.
